ニューウエーヴの音楽と共演したり、フィリップ・グラスや自らのレーベルで、ハイドンやフランク、メンデルスゾーンの弦楽四重奏曲なども配信したりと、意欲的な活動をしているイギリス・アイルランド混成の弦楽四重奏団。ショスタコーヴィッチの全弦楽四重奏曲の演奏プロジェクトや教育活動も、各地で大々的にやっている注目のカルテット。タコさんの弦楽四重奏曲の中では、転機となった３曲がまず選ばれてます。４番は、２次世界大戦の頃、８番は、またお国に睨まれて、悶々としていた頃で例の符号があちこちに、１１番は、親戚や自らの体調不調、老年期に入って、暗い暗い弦楽四重奏曲を書き始める様になった作品。まず、選曲よし、タコさんの変態リズム、孤独と爆発、やってられねえ、暗澹たる気分、真夜中のつぶやきもしっかりと聴かせてくれる。次なる展開が楽しみ。シューベルトなんかも聴いてみたい。
