「子供のためのアルバム」はその看板どおり、わかり易い各曲のタイトルとそれに従った内容、短い演奏時間、簡素な演奏技巧といった特色を持っています。そのため「お子様教育用」と偏見視されるのか、演奏会や録音の機会は少なくなっていますが、実は大変に優れた、多彩な内容を持つロマン派キャラクターピースの傑作集にしてシューマン最良の作品の一つというべきでしょう。簡潔にしてこれだけの豊かさを持っていることには、全く驚かされてしまいます。当盤で演奏を担当しているリコ・グルダ(あのフリードリヒ・グルダの子息です)は、そんな夢見るような詩情に溢れた小品たちの魅力を最大限に掬い上げ、優しく丁寧なタッチで見事に弾きあげています。
