St Patricks Week 1955

She was christened Ruby Florence Murray, and she was a precious, red gem, with her soft Irish voice, with its characteristic huskiness. She had a double celebration that week of March 17th 1955. Firstly, she honoured the birth of St. Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland. Secondly, she celebrated having five records in the British Top 20 In that one week. Heartbeat was Ruby's first record to enter the charts on December 4th 1954, staying there for four months and peaking at No. 3. On January 29th 1955 came Softly, Softly which gained the magical No. 1 spot , remaining in the charts for twenty-two weeks. Happy Days And Lonely Nights arrived on February 5 th, reached Mo. 6 and stayed for two months. On March 5th it was the turn of Let Me Go, Lover to enter the charts, staying there for seven weeks and attaining the No. 6 spot also. Finally, on March 19th came If Anyone Finds This, I Love You which reached No. 4 and remained in the charts for eleven weeks. Soon Ruby had her own television programme, starred at the London Palladium with Norman Wisdom in ' Painting The Town', appeared in a Royal Command Performance and toured the world.
