●1945年英国ロンドン生まれ。1964年にソロ･デビュー。一方で60年代後半〜70年代前半はジェフ･ベック･グループ、フェイセズのヴォーカリストとしても活躍。ソロでは「マギー･メイ」、「セイリング」、「アイム・セクシー」など、大ヒット･シングルを連発。2002年にワーナーミュージックからJ Recordsに移籍。昔からの夢であったスタンダード曲のカヴァー集『ザ・グレイト・アメリカン・ソングブック』をリリース。全世界トータルで600万枚を超えるセールスを記録。同シリーズは第5弾までリリース。第3弾は全米1位となり、自身初のグラミー賞を受賞。2006年にはロックのカヴァー集『グレイト・ロック・クラシックス』（全米1位）を、2009年にはソウル･クラシックスのカヴァー集『ソウルブック』（全米4位）をリリース、いずれも大ヒット。以後もコンスタントにアルバムを発表し、現在も活躍を続けている。

●「ロックに回帰」を宣言して制作した2006年リリースのロック・カヴァー・アルバム。全米1位、全英4位。ボーナス・トラック1曲収録。
