If D'Angelo and Maxwell represent the face of a neo-soul movement that consistently draws inspiration from Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye, then Ricky Fante is plugged directly into the down-home nuances of Otis Redding. Fante's debut, REWIND, teams him up with a songwriting group that includes Norah Jones collaborator Jesse Harris and brings to mind classic Stax/Volt recordings. Blessed with a sweet crooning style that has just a dash of grit in it, this Washington, D.C. native demonstrates great range. Fante easily goes from the sassy strut of "My Song" and gospel-flavored "It Ain't Easy" to the snappy "Drive" and the pleading "I Let You Go," a yearning song of loss that easily sounds like a Redding outtake. REWIND is an apt title, since Ricky Fante manages to make 2004 sound like 1964.

今朝聴いたラジオで彼を知ったのですが、今時’６０年代のサザンソウル系の歌を歌う人がいるんだと驚きました。元テンプテーションのデヴィッド・ラフィン似のハスキーボイスも素敵だし、何よりも打ちこみを殆ど使っていない点に強く惹かれました。真のソウルミュージックとはこのことを言うのですよ！これからの彼の活躍を期待しております。
