Product Description

Formed in 2006, Resonance has grown from it's two original members-Stephen McQuarry: leader/piano/compositions/arrangements, and Georgianna Krieger: saxophones-into a full-force jazz ensemble. Resonance now is a jazz octet that also includes Laura Austin Wiley: flutes/vocal; Michele Walther: violin; Michelle Mastin: viola; Nancy Bien: cello; Ted Burik: double bass; and Greg German: drums. This jazz ensemble is adding to the long music history of California's San Francisco Bay Area with it's unique instrumentation. The result is a rich fusion of orchestral and big-band sounds. This contemporary ensemble introduces not only an interesting fusion of instruments, plus vocals, but takes you on a journey around the jazz standards world including Duke Ellington's In A Sentimental Mood, Jimmy Heath's Gemini, and Gil Evans/Miles Davis's Prelude/So What. Yet, listen again and you will hear Resonance move to pop classic John Lennon/Paul McCartney's Eleanor Rigby and the classical chorale from Gustav Holst's Jupiter, both interpreted in modern jazz idiom. You are introduced to original compositions: The Journey of Each Other, built around mix-meter timing with modal structures, and a return to the big-band swing sound with See You Next Wednesday. Yet, wait, you are now introduced to Clare Fischer's Latin-jazz classic Gaviota and then to the rich vocal styling of the song Moon and Sand by Alec Wilder, Morty Palitz, and William Engvick. With all these introductions to Resonance's diverse and wonderful repertoire, you will want to stay to let these full, flavorful sounds encompass and delight you! Welcome to Introductions!
