ライブエイドの伝説で復活したバンドが、その後制作したアルバム。一曲目から元気一杯の楽曲が並ぶ。この後フレディーにとって最後のツアーがあり、再びウエンブリーのステージに立ちました。何よりフレディーの声が出ているのが何より嬉しい。

『QUEENⅡ』『オペラ座の夜』も素晴らしい作品であるが、自分にとっては本アルバムもそれらと並ぶ名盤だと思っている。壮大な“ONE VISION”に始まり、泣きのバラード“WHO WANTS TO LIVE FOREVER”、劇中のセリフを盛り込んだヘヴィな“GIMME THE PRIZE”、映画の主題歌であり、QUEEN流エピックメタルな“PRINCES OF THE UNIVERSE”と捨て曲の存在しないアルバム。個人的には“A KIND OF MAGIC”は映画バージョンの方が好き。このアルバムに出会った事で映画ハイランダーシリーズにもハマった。

フレディの声がやや荒れているような印象を受けて、これはエイズの兆候だったのかな……と思わないでもないけれど、好きか嫌いかと言われればこれぐらい荒れてパワフルな方が個人的には好き。ワン・ヴィジョン、カインド・オブ・マジック、プリンシス・オブ・ザ・ユニバース辺りは超名曲だと思うので、なんかもう一曲シングルヒットしそうな曲があったら……と思う。ボウイとここでもう一曲共作出来たら良かったのにとか思うんですが、どうでしょう？
