Although Pursuit of Power is being referred to as a band, it is more accurately a studio project created entirely by Indiana guitarist Martin McCann. McCann wrote all of the music and lyrics, played all of the instruments, and then enlisted a former bandmate Steve Mullican Jr. to do the vocals. McCann says on the CD's liner notes, '...the whole time I was writing these songs, I felt like I was writing for a melodic metal band. From the start, I have always seen Pursuit of Power as a band, even if that band was only in my mind. But that's how every band starts out anyway, an idea in someone's mind ... The next step is to put together a line-up to perform these songs live and use this as a building block.'
