プリンスの６作目のスタジオアルバム（かつサントラ）でベストセラー、そして私の中では最高傑作アルバムであります。ビルボード全米アルバムチャートで２４週連続１位（確かこの時の２位はずっとブルース・スプリングスティーンの「ＢＯＲＮ ＩＮ ＴＨＥ Ｕ.Ｓ.Ａ」だったという記憶があります。）、しかしその割には年間チャートはそれ程高くなかった様な気がします。自らが主演のサントラ盤でもあり楽曲の良さもさる事ながら、一大コンセプトアルバム的な風格のある仕上がりになっていると思います。８０年代は本当に素晴らしい作品が多かったなあ〜。彼が亡くなってもう５年になるのです。残念！

ﾌﾟﾘﾝｽのCDがﾘﾏｽﾀｰされないのは恐らくｱｰﾃｨｽﾄの意向が大きく影響しているみたいですね｡私は80年代の後半にﾘﾘｰｽされた輸入盤･FOREVER YOUNGｼﾘｰｽﾞの国内盤･紙ｼﾞｬｹSHM-CDの国内盤を持っていますが確かに音圧が物足りないのは事実です｡でも作品自体は最高評価ですけどね(笑)

正に『名盤』という文句無しの金字塔。 既に発表から20年以上も経つが、若かりし頃、最も勢いのあった無敵の殿下は間違いなくこの作品の中に存在している。 構成も完璧で、［When Doves Cry］からは最後の［Purple Rain］まで一気に展開して魅了させられる。
