’76年、ニューカッスル、当時カーヴド・エアーにてドラムを担当していたスチュワート・コープランドはスティング（当時バンド、ラスト・イグジットに在籍）と出会う。翌年’77年にヘンリー・バドヴァ－ニの3人によって結成されたポリスの大ヒット作にして、ラスト・(解散宣言はしてないけど...)アルバムというべき作品であり、最高傑作の誉れ高い一枚！1983年発表。“見つめていたい(Every Breath You Take)”、“シンクロニシティーII”“キング・オブ・ペイン”など多くのヒット・シングルが生まれました。前作からのレゲエによるアプローチは姿を消し、アート・ロックといった印象を強く受ける内容となった本作は、タイトル（心理学者カール・ユング著作の「共時性」から題材をとっている）が示す様に、ちょっと小難しい音で迫る。このアルバムにも収録されている“見つめていたい”は’83年度のビルボード・チャートによる年間ナンバー・ワン・ソングにも選ばれた。
