Solomon, piano
Solomon Cutner was one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century . but his name still gradually faded into obscurity following the stroke he suffered in the 1950s.
The musician, who was born in London in 1902, was a veritable child prodigy and was trained in his early years by one of Clara Schumann’s students. Solomon made his debut at Queen’s Hall in London at the tender age of eight. By the age of twelve the young pianist had more than a dozen piano concertos, recital programmes and chamber music works in his repertoire and insisted on using his first name as his stage name. This compilation features Solomon’s renditions of the works of “his” composers . Beethoven and Brahms . in addition to masterly interpretations of piano pieces and concertos by Mozart, Chopin, Schumann and Grieg.
The earliest recordings were made in 1932, the latest in 1956, the year in which fate struck its terrible blow. Solomon suffered a stroke that put an end to his career and silenced him as an artist for the remaining 32 years of his life. ( Music Alliance Membran GmbH )
