アナログ2枚組のセットを購入。ベスト盤...

アナログ2枚組のセットを購入。ベスト盤といえども、曲数もこれぐらいがちょうどよく、アナログ盤特有の太くて奥行を感じさせるサウンドが嬉しい。また、ヴィニール・コーティングされたジャケットも美しく、内ジャケットや付録の大型カードに掲載されている新しい写真に写っているポールの姿もとても粋だ。男気溢れる太くて重いサウンドを叩き出す作品の中に、なんとも言えない滋味深さを感じる。 2000年代、2010年代における素晴らしい技術で録音されてはいるが、そこには、まぎれのない60~70年代に鳴っていたロックやソウルの風合いが依然として脈打っている。新曲の「Brand　New　Toy」は、溌剌とした歌声と共に再び若さを取り戻したような（何度目だ？！）素晴らしさ。常に「brand　new」に向かっておのれを駆り立てるポール・ウェラー。ソロ・キャリアを踏み出してから、これで集大成ともいえるベスト盤は二度目になったが、もうすぐ出る『Saturns Pattern』から、いったいどのような新しいドライブを見せてくれるのだろうか。
