『オーケストリオン』で複数の楽器を自動演奏させるという驚異のアプローチを成し遂げたメセニーが次に作品として送り出すのには「ソロ・アコースティック・ギター」作。ソロ・ギター作品としてはスペシャル・チューンアップされたバリトン・ギターを駆使したグラミーを受賞した2003年作品『One Quiet Night』以来。しかも、収録された曲は、全曲他アーチストの曲。いわゆるカヴァー・アルバムとなっています。これまで40近くに及ぶメセニーのアルバムで自身のオリジナル曲が1曲も入っていない作品はこれまでになく、メセニーにとって初の試みとなっています。

収録された楽曲は、ポール・サイモン、レノン & マッカートニー, バート・バカラック、ヘンリー・マンシーニ等、1954年生まれのメセニーがまだ楽器や曲作りを始めていなかった10代初期にどれもがトップ40ヒットした、誰もが知る名曲。若きメセニーがハーモニーとメロディーにおいて大きな感銘を抱いた楽曲達です。

ギターに関しては、42弦カスタム・メイド・ピカソ・ギターを使用した「The Sound of Silence」、6弦を使用した「Pipeline」、そしてナイロン弦ギターを使用した「And I Love Her」を除くほとんどの曲でアコースティック・バリトン・ギターをプレイ。

至高の技術を持って豊かな音色と共に美しく奏でられる名曲達。まさにメセニー流と呼べる、これまでにないソロ・ギター作、そして最上級のカヴァー集と言えるでしょう。

180グラム2枚組みLP版には、CDに収録された10曲に加え、セロニアス・モンクの「'Round Midnight」とロジャース & ハマースタインの「This Nearly Was Mine」を収録。

パット・メセニー初の全曲カヴァー・アルバム。 2003年バリトンギターだけで作り上げた「One Quiet Night」以来の本格アコースティックアルバム。 オープニングはピカソギターの独特な音色で奏でるサイモン＆ガーファンクル「サウンド・オブ・サイレンス」、ベンチャーズ「パイプライン」など馴染みの曲をピックアップしてます。ラストのビートルズ「アンド・アイ・ラヴ・ハー」、素直なアレンジなのに心に響く、なぜだろう。 オーバーダビングも施していないギターソロと言うのも驚きです。 第54回グラミー賞最優秀ニューエイジ・アルバム

最初に耳にした際、べたな選曲、シンプルこの上ない演奏になんじゃこりゃ！失望しました、が、聴いてゆくうちその良さがにじみ出てきて、今まではパット一番の愛聴盤となりました、何回聴いても飽きない！
