For the first time since his 1980 release 80/81, guitarist Pat Metheny has recorded with a band that features tenor saxophone. Unity Band introduces a new Metheny ensemble with Chris Potter on sax and bass clarinet, longtime collaborator Antonio Sanchez on drums, and the up-and-coming Ben Williams on bass. The album features nine new Metheny compositions.

パットメセニーに関しては振り幅が大きいから好きなアルバムや年代が違うと思う。 わりとはじめの頃のパットメセニーグループを聴いて過ごした僕は、大好きな「80/81」の前後の、あの頃を彷彿させるアルバム。 （グループではなく）ユニティ・バンドと言うだけあって、バンド感がしっかり。 パット・メセニー(g)の他、クリス・ポッター(ts)、ベン・ウィリアムス(b)、アントニオ・サンチェス(ds)の四人。 力強いアルバムジャケット通りの引き締まったアルバム。

クリス・ポッター目当てで購入した。これまでＣＤ７０枚以上彼の演奏を聴き続けてきたが、ここでもこれまでの百戦錬磨の経験が活かされ素晴らしいアプローチでパット・メセニーの音楽に活気を与えていると思う。８０/８１でデューイー・レッドマンの素晴らしい演奏を聴いた時の興奮がよみがえった。

パットメセニーの歴代のアルバムのなかでは、ごく普通で、良くも悪くもない。 特に特徴のあるアルバムとは思えない。 １，２回聴けば充分という感じ。
