全米ジャズアルバム・チャート1位！ 1980年リリースのパットメセニーグループ2作目アルバム。全曲、ライル・メイズとの共作。 「クロス・ザ・ハートランド 」や「ジ・エピック」ではすでにライル・メイズのサウンドが完成されています。 ECMはヨーロッパのテイストのアルバムが多いけれど、この「アメリカン・ガレージ 」はタイトル曲はじめ、カントリーやロックのテイストが強めのアメリカンテイストのアルバム。

PMGのｱﾙﾊﾞﾑではもっともﾜｲﾙﾄﾞでﾛｯｸぽい。「ｼﾞ･ｴﾋﾟｯｸ」など構成がやや荒削りなのは若さゆえと納得できる。「ｴｱｰｽﾄﾘｰﾑ」と「ｻﾞ･ｻｰﾁ」はｱﾒﾘｶの草原に寝転んで聞きたくなる曲。「ｻﾞ･ｻｰﾁ」はｱﾒﾘｶ国歌にしてもおかしくないのでは？
