This box contains four splendid productions of masterpieces of Italian opera: Il barbiere di Siviglia, La Traviata, Tosca and Adriana Lecouvreur. A highly acclaimed staging of one of the most popular operas ever written is Rossini’s ‘Il barbiere di Siviglia’ presented with an all-star cast. An audiovisual feast that guarantees a wonderful night-out-at-the-opera experience for the home viewer. Another fascinating production is Verdi’s ‘La Traviata’ at one of Europe’s most important open-air festivals: the Opera Festival St. Margarethen. Also Puccini’s ‘Tosca’ can be enqueued to one of the best loved operas in the repertoire in a world-famous staging at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. It is sung by an international cast of excellent singer-actors and directed by Riccardo Muti. The lead roles are filled by high-calibre stars, among them Maria Guleghina, one of the best dramatic sopranos of our time. Under the baton of Roberto Rizzi Brignoli, a new generation of singers gave fresh life to Cilea’s most polished work in January 2000. Daniela Dessi is admired for her ‘sensual tones’ in her singing.
