Following the success of the Isis Ensemble's critically acclaimed debut on the Meridian label, this CD features premiere recordings of transcriptions for string orchestra by the orchestra's Music Director, conductor and composer Jacques Cohen. Taking pride of place is one of the towering masterpieces of the piano repertoire, Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition. This string version, first performed in London in 2009, has already been broadcast and performed many times both in the UK and abroad, and has been hailed as a major new addition to the string orchestra repertoire. It also demonstrates the dazzling virtuosity of the Isis Ensemble.
