Director Park Chanwook manages to actually surpass his previous film, Sympathy For Mr Vengeance, with his latest cinematic tour-de-force, Old Boy. Building on a similar level of violence, character and deeply disturbing events, Old Boy introduces us to Dae-su, a fairly anonymous businessman who finds himself imprisoned in a room by unknown forces and for an unspecified amount of time. Fed and treated well he has no contact with his captors or with the outside world, save for access to a TV, which allows him to see the TV news report of his wife's murder. Then after 15-years in the same room he's suddenly released, no explanation, no reason, just released back into the world with a sharp suit, a stack of cash in his pocket and a mobile phone. Now Dae-Su sets out to avenge his imprisonment and track down his mysterious jailer, unfortunately that's exactly what his nemesis wants him to do…
