長男フランシス、次男ピーター、三男ジャックのホイットマン3兄弟。彼らはフランシスの提案で、インド北西部を走るダージリン急行に乗り合わせた。旅の目的は、父の死をきっかけに1年ものあいだ絶交状態にあった兄弟の結束を再び取り戻すこと。バイク事故で瀕死の重傷を負い、奇跡の生還を果たしたばかりのフランシス。兄弟から父の遺品を独り占めしたと非難され、妊娠7ヵ月の妻アリスとも上手くいっていないピーター。そして、家族をネタに小説を書き上げたばかりのジャックは、失恋の痛手を引きずっていた。それぞれに問題を抱える3兄弟は、早々に衝突してしまうが……。
