It's Just Me

Michael Rathgeber: Music studies at the University of the Arts Berlin and at the Musikhochschule in Mannheim with a final diploma graduate artistic training at the Musikhochschule Mannheim. Internship at SWR Baden-Baden. Appointed co-principal clarinetist at the Stuttgart State Opera. Participation in productions of various orchestras and ensembles, including SWR Baden-Baden and Freiburg, NDR Hamburg, DSO Berlin, BR Munich, State Opera Munich, State Opera Hamburg, Bamberg Symphony. Radio recordings, CD recordings, television broadcasts, composition, sound design. Teaching at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart and in his own music studio. Much of the music on the album is improvised free or based on a few short limbed core elements.

Like in certain areas of the visual arts, the music develops layer by layer. I would call this a 'reflexive improvisation'. The resulting soundscapes are made up of very different styles. Of course you can hear a little bit of my 'hometown', the classical music, but there is also jazz, funk and electronic music in it. The center,which holds everything together is in this case the computer, with it's power to combine all the tracks and samples and the ability to morph the sounds, counter-pointed in some parts by clarinet and saxophone.
