Two years before she died, Lorraine Hunt Lieberson gave this recital focusing on the theme of love at the Ravinia Festival (Illinois). In this ‘live’ recording, she displays her own very special sense of drama in a programme ranging over several centuries and covering every facet of this universal emotion, accompanied by an eminent partner, the pianist Peter Serkin. 「偉大な歌手になるために必要なのは？」の問いに、ニューヨークの著名な声楽教師は「内なる光」と答えたという。このコンサートの後2年後に亡くなったメッツォの声を聴くと、失ったものの大きさに、心が引きちぎられる思いがする。全霊を傾けて歌い上げた珠玉の歌の数々。歌うこと＝生きること、であるかのように、音源を通して彼女の気高い魂に語りかけられている気がする。Wigmore Hallライブと同様、アンコールの“Deep River”は涙なくして聴けない絶唱。アンコールの２曲目は、以外にも“Calling You”。通俗的と思っていたこの歌が、懐かしくて、果てることのない彷徨のモノローグと化す。伴奏はあのピーター・ゼルキン。いい味出してる。ハントは来日経験があるそうだが、残念、聴き逃してしまった。痛恨の極み。
