確かにいい曲ですね。いかにもメンデルスゾーンらしい、まっすぐで一図な精神を表現していると思う。あちこちにバッハを感じさせる曲調がでてきて、思わず「なるほど」と納得してしまう。 ソリストはヤノヴィッツを始め皆素晴らしいが、合唱がまた出色の出来だ。宗教曲の歌い方を熟知していて、技術的にも音楽的にも素晴らしい。そして、LGOのちょっとくすんだ音色が曲にぴったりと合っている。マズアも落ち着いた安定感のある指揮をしている。

これは名曲、名盤です。 メンデルスゾーンのオラトリオ第１作目になる『聖パウロ』。 力強く、そして美しい。 第１部が特に素晴らしい。
