Product Description

Pentameron is inspired by one of the most important collections of stories and folk tales of all times: The Pentamerone (The Tale of Tales) written by Giambattista Basile and published in 1634 in Naples. The stories in this work are divided into five days (greek: pnte = five, hemra = day) and told in Neapolitan dialect. Ensemble Oni Wytars has picked and arranged Italian folk songs from 16th century, which were partially cited by Basile in his work. The recording also consists of songs by some of the most famous Neapolitan musicians, with whom Basile had close relationships - such as Baldassare Donato, G. Da Nola, G. Leonardo DellArpa and Velardiniello. In regard to the work of Basile, this album is divided into five days and represents the tales in music. Ensemble Oni Wytars will give the listener a feeling of the atmosphere felt in the yards and courts, where these stories and songs gave life to tragical figures, their dreams and their search for magic and love.
