本作は、英国ロイヤル・バレエ団の任命によって行われた、振付師Wayne McGregorと、現代美術作家Julian Opieとのコラボレーション作品が元になっている。

バレエ作品『Infra』のためのスコアは2008年秋に書かれ、11月にロイヤル・オペラ・ハウスにて初演された。McGregorのリクエストにより、T.Sエリオットの『荒地』からインスパイアされた、バレエのためのオリジナル・スコア「Infra 1-8」に加えて、その後アルバムの構造から書き加えられ発展されたマテリアル（「Journey 1-5」）を加えた全13曲。

ピアノ、エレクトロニクス、ヴァイオリン、ヴィオラ、チェロのストリングス・クインテットからなる、威厳がありながらも静寂をたたえた知的な美しさはマックス・リヒター特有のものである。

Johann Johannsson、Hauschka、Goldmund、Sylvain Chauveauから、Olafur Arnalds、Peter Broderick、Nico Muhlyなど、すばらしい才能を多数かかえるポスト・クラシカル・シーンにおいて、彼が最重要アーティストであることを証明する傑作。(メーカー資料より)
