No Relation

Though No Relation to prolific inventor, Charles Kettering-a common enough question in his old Ohio stomping grounds-Mary Kettering has made a name for herself in bluegrass circles for her deft fiddling, pure voice, and fresh writing. As a member of Faces Made for Radio, Kentucky Border, and now Northwest Territory, she has honed her traditional and contemporary bluegrass skills on stage and in the studio. Mary brings it all into focus with No Relation, her first solo album. Playing with some of her favorite musicians, she offers a twelve-track tour of her bluegrass life, from traditional tunes like Bill Cheatham to the whirlwind banjo-fiddle romp Psychobilly Cadillac, contributed by former band mate Gary Fossaceca. Three of Mary's original tunes are also woven into the tour, (I Don't Know About That, I'll Travel On, and Every Mile of the Way), plus a live-and lively-take on the fiddle classic Orange Blossom Special that Mary manages to make her own. Bookending the album are two versions of the traditional hymn Amazing Grace. The first is a mix of tradition and toe-tapping high spirits, the closing one a haunting arrangement for three violins. Released in June of 2012, No Relation garnered immediate radio play throughout central Ohio, and is now expanding it's reach to bluegrass audiences everywhere.
