2010年の来日時に販売されていた自主制作盤に新曲を加えた待望のデビュー作。マリア・ルランデルはスウェーデンの南にある島 Oland 生まれ、今作の「Facing South」というアルバム名はそこからでしょうか。ボーカルだけでなく作詞作曲も彼女のもので、ジャズ・フォーマットとはいえその独特のサウンドには新しさを感じさせます。ジャケが眉間にしわがよっていかつい印象ですが、中身は美しいバラードの数々、様々な音楽マテリアルが感じられますが、とっても北欧らしい透きとおった美しさが全体を包み、さらに芯のとおった力強さもうかがわせるすばらしい北欧アコースティック・ジャズ・ボーカル作品。(新譜インフォより)
