Product Description

The Magnolia Serenaders are an old-time string band that captures the musical sounds of the 1920's and '30s in the Deep South. Their CD, Saturday Night Breakdown, contains some of the more interesting and hard-to-find tunes from the 78 rpm records of that era. Saturday Night Breakdown includes 18 selections taken from the recordings of such string band luminaries as Hoyt Ming and His Pep Steppers, The Stripling Brothers, The Grinnell Giggers, Oscar and Doc Harper, and Gus and Theo Clark, among others, who recorded during the golden era of American old-time music. With Jim Holland on banjo, Chuck Hornemann on fiddle, and Paul Harnik on guitar, the Serenaders placed in the traditional band finals at the Appalachian String Band Festival (Clifftop) in 2008 and won the band contest at the Berkeley Old-Time Music Convention in 2009. After nearly a decade of playing together whenever they can, the Serenaders are happy to share some of their favorite melodies with you. Bust down! 'You guys have that real band sound from the past.' 'You three are so balanced.' 'Your tunes are great. Crooked, interesting, and so well played.'
