Product Description

TMM began after a reggae/roots influenced kiwi trawled e-bay for the oldest No-Doubt B-side CD's she could buy. After crossing the ditch to Australia on the spur of the moment after a bout of bad weather in NZ, Mandy Meadows performed a couple of Chrissy Amphlett & Alannah Myles covers at the local footy club with the help of a couple of local blokes backing her on acoustic guitar. She persuaded them to throw in a couple of her Ska/Pop influenced originals, and sure enough, after a few rehearsals in the changing rooms, found herself with a full rock band, back in the footy club, and surrounded by stubbies and sticky tables. But Mandy wanted a slick sound, so more songs were written, band members were replaced, so soon the band was dotted with a 3 piece horn section, and dressed in matching outfits accordingly. They are becoming a household name around Melbourne, especially in St Kilda, their birthplace, and drawing crowds they never thought imaginable. Their action packed shows are more than just music, with crazy outlandish outfits and stage presence, the crowd wobbles uncontrollably. What you hear today is not grungy, not earthy, not wailing or hauntingly beautiful. It is fun, sexy, raucous, bodacious and light-hearted. Cause that's how they like it. And they don't have their photos taken standing in a line against a brick wall in skinny jeans hair looking cool. Mandy grew her musical talent as a classical and jazz singer, but feels most at home when performing her original music. She sews many of the outfits TMM wear on stage. Englishman Jon Mellor was signed to Warner Bros with white soul band The Foundation in the late 80s. He played bass with Beatles-influenced band Ouch! In the 90s and had 2 No.1 singles in Japan in 1994, released through Sony. In 1998, He wrote a full length feature film score for The Last Seduction II, released through Universal. Drummer and percussionist Paul Frangos is a native Melbournian, and has played in funk, motown and rock bands around Melbourne. He loves hitting hard funky breaks, and is an excellent Mediterranean cook. Guitarist Luke Forward is a landscaper by trade, and did a stint in Dubai with a coverband and performed on a cruise ship for 12 months. The Hornies consist of Matt Story, Shelly Ryan and Tom (Big-Bone) McKenzie. Matt (Trumpet) and Shelly (Saxophone) both hail from country Victoria and have studied music at a tertiary level. They are engaged to be married in December (Awwwww!). Tom is a fellow Kiwi, barista extraordinaire and holds a chemistry degree. He loves jazz and was the NZ National Junior Trombone Solo Champion. Sounds Like: Pink, Gwen Stefani, The Specials, Madness.
