2013年のデビュー・アルバム『Wildewoman』とそれに続く2016年の『Good Grief』でインディ・シーンに注目株として躍り出たルシウス。元々はブルックリンを拠点に活動していた彼らですが、2015年にLAに移動。本作は2018年のアコースティック・プロジェクト作『Nudes』以来となるアルバムです。ルーツ系なサウンド・アプローチも知られ、本作もナッシュヴィルでの録音なんですが、なんと全編がディスコ・チューン!

冒頭の“Second Nature”は00年代以降のポップ・アフロ風味を感じるディスコ・チューン、そして続く“Next to Normal”ではよりハッキリしたブギー/ファンク・サウンドを披露。“Heartbursts”や“LSD”の80sディスコ/R&Bは、ABBAを思わせる多幸感を実現しています。各トラックに共通する込み上げ系のメロディがまた非常にレベルが高く、正にアルバム丸ごとフロア・アンセムになりえるキラメキのナイト・サウンド!テーム・インパラ好きにもチェックしてほしい傑作に仕上がってます。
