Interface

Interface is the latest CD from saxophone and flutist Lou Caputo. Unlike His previous two release's which were large group sessions this projects features a quintet, and is also a collaboration with longtime friend bassist Chris White. The two go back quite awhile, and the musical rapport the two share is quite obvious even to the casual listener. Interface is the product of a lifetime of collaboration and friendship During Christmas week of 2011, White and Caputo began the process of putting together the songs that became 'Interface.' White composed two of the album's tracks and acts as producer and bassist to Caputo as a bandleader and soloist. Aziza Williams also contributed an original composition, 'La Costa' which was recorded some time back by Natalie Cole. The group is filled out by Warren Smith on vibraphone whose impressive credits list Max Roach, Gil Evans, and Charles Mingus among many others. Payton Crossley can be heard as part of Ron Carter's current quartet and logged in some time with Ahmad Jamal as well, note the creative pulse he sets on Lotus Blossom' Pianist Don Stein is responsible for the arrangements on Brubeck's 'The Duke', 'Azule Serape' and 'Felicidade' as well as Mingus', 'The Dry Cleaner from DesMoines' Lou adds his array of well polished woodwinds to the setting utilizing Soprano, Alto, and Baritone Saxophones plus Clarinet, Flute, and most effectively on 'Urban Flower' Alto Flute,. On several tracks the artistry of percussionist Leopoldo Fleming adds color and grace to the proceedings. A special note should be made to the cover painting which is the work of the late tenor saxophonist Bill Barron.
