Dog Heaven

Leejay is a songwriter/singer of alt. Country/folk/Americana songs with rock/pop influences. Think Lucinda Williams and a countrified Lou Reed in an unholy alliance, and throw in some Gram Parsons, John Prine, and Johnny Cash. His CDs Switchtracks and Dust Bowl Soul have explored inner prairies and dust bowls; metaphorical hells, purgatories, and heavens; battles with personal demons for redemption; and the pursuit of wisdom and contentment. The newest collection,'Dog Heaven,' again produced by the masterful Dick Neal, adds to the country/folk mix some nods to rockabilly, Tex/Mex, and the 60s rock ballads of the Doors, the Velvet Underground, Jefferson Airplane, and John Lennon. It includes a few songs with dog references, reflecting Leejay's love for and kinship with those noble beasts, and serving as metaphors for states of mind that approximate a personal sort of hell (Worry Don't Dog Me), earthly desires (Not That Kind of Dog), and a hoped for paradise (Dog Heaven).
