Masterful, inspired band displaying a virtuoso level of performance, versatile, lush, and colorful arrangements, ever shifting keys, modulations, rhythmic patterns, and time signatures. Four musicians, eight tunes. Four originals, four standards. Three recorded as a Quartet, four as a Trio. Hancock's 'Dolphin Dance' in 5/4 featuring both Jon Davis with his signature awe inspiring pianism, and Gianluca Renzi's melodic, fluid and precise acoustic bass. Hear a different version of Coltrane's 'Countdown', arranged by Jon Davis, here presented as a light bossa nova, with Lale Nenadovic's delicate and sophisticated brush work on the drums, and a stellar bass solo by Gianluca. The next composition, ( again Coltrane ) 'Naima', introduces our soulful, yet dexterious sax player Peter Brainin, rendering a mind blowing soprano sax solo in 6/8. Ellington's 'Caravan' features the percussive artistry, elegance and extravagant technique of drummer / band leader - Lale Nenadovic. The funkified drum solo intro, and his energetic, rhythm shifting arrangement adds a fresh twist to this great standard. 'Song for Sabrina', another Renzi original, features a more mellow side of the Trio in a delicate, sophisticated manner. The last two tunes, both originals, one a 6/8, and the other a slow jazz ballad, feature our pianist Jon Davis, equally as a brilliant composer as well as a pianist.
