A man and his uke. It's surprising how often it comes down to that. 4 strings ain't much to hide behind. So Kelly and his uke do a balancing act, just holding the song up enough for the listener to take what they want from his mixture of longing, sorrow, rocketships and sea-monkeys. You've never heard anything even remotely like it. From the liner notes: We descended on a small, welcoming, black box theater in the heart of San Francisco's Tenderloin district without any real idea how we were going to pull this off other than a few pencil sketches from Bryn and some Irish whisky. It wasn't designed for music, much less recording, and was an acoustic nightmare for music. Just the kind of challenge we like! Somehow we got the place wired for sound, worked out the acoustic issues, got a recording rig set up and, over the course of four nights in front a wonderful live audience, made this.
