The Soviet musical establishment considered Kabalevsky a dream composer, as his compositions fit the prescribed formula for proper Russian music: bright, straightforward, folk-based works which made few demands on the listener's intellect. Still, his gifts as a melodist and orchestrator made him immensely popular in his time. This re-release offers some of his finest works, including the Romeo and Juliet symphonic suite.

旧ソ連の作曲家、カバレフスキーの管弦楽曲...

旧ソ連の作曲家、カバレフスキーの管弦楽曲を集めたCDが、この盤である。アナトリー・ラプノフ指揮する、ベラルーシ放送交響楽団の演奏で1990年代半ば頃に録音された物。元は他のレーベルで発売後、廃盤になった後、デロスから再発売となった音源。収録曲はカバレフスキーの作風である、分かりやすさが最も良く出た作品であり、カバレフスキーの管弦楽曲集としては比較的知られた作品で、他にも音源がある曲ばかりだが、このラプノフ盤、ロシア系の演奏家らしいダイナミックなスケールとスピード感のある躍動的な演奏で、収録曲の中では今現在最もおすすめ出来る演奏。（ちなみに爆演タイプではない）オケの知名度は高いとは言えないが、ここでの技術力はなかなかのハイレベル、金管に時折、ロシアオケ（ベラルーシだけど）らしい咆哮が聴けるのは、ロシア音楽好きなら嬉しい所。録音、音質は共に良好。
