Love On The Rocks

もう４０年前からジュリーの熱心なファンでした。当時の国内アルバムの「For The Night People」（日本独自編集版）は彼女の最高のアルバムでした。その中に入っていた「A Cottage For Sale」と名曲「I’ll Be Seeing You」がこのアルバムに入っています。又大好きな「What’s New」や「Whare Are You」なども良い味を出しています。ジュリーは本格的？なＪＡＺＺ歌手に比べて過少評価されすぎていると思います。彼女の歌を聴いて原曲のメロディーや雰囲気が良くわかります。そのあとでアニタやカーメンを聴くと、新たな事に気づく事も多いと思います。だからといって、ジュリーは入門編の歌手という訳ではなく、実に深い感情や情景を歌っている事は聞き込むとわかります。そのジュリーｎアルバムの中でもこれはおすすめの一枚です。最後に私のお気に入りのジュリーの歌は上記のほかには「Body and Soul」「Saturday Night」「I’ll Never Smile Again 」「Something I Dreamed Last Night」「 Nobody’s Heart」「That Old Feeling」といった所でしょうか。 」

Julie’s first albums with just a small rhythm section are her best but this one featuring Pete King and His Orchestra is the best of her later albums.. We have come to know Julie because of her smoky interpretations of the ballads. This one contains such great versions of ”Guess Who I Saw Today,” ”End of a Love Affair” and the title song. Pete King knows how to bring out her torchy voice and make each one of these songs superb. This CD reissue will be most welcome by Julie fans and I am delighted it is being released.
