Never Far

Julie Hoest is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist who has been performing in Colorado and nationally since the 1980s. Her powerful fingerpicking guitar work accompanies a strong and tender voice in the style of contemporary folk and blues. In addition to opening shows for a number of national and international artists, Julie has graced the stages at numerous festivals around the country. She is also a member of the legendary Mother Folkers. Growing up on Long Island, Julie was taught how to play the guitar by her father who sat around the table after dinner singing songs of Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie. Other influences range from the early blues pickers of the '30s and '40s and jazz singers such as Ella, to present-day artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Tim O'Brien, Bruce Cockburn, Joni Mitchell, and Richard Thompson. After taking a bit of a hiatus from the music scene, Julie is back in full force and has recorded her third CD titled 'Never Far'. In addition to five original tunes, she lends her own style to cover some of her favorite songs. Guest appearances on the recording include John Magnie playing soulful piano and accordian, Mollie O'Brien lending her fabulous vocals, and Mary Stribling playing her extraordinary style of pitch-perfect acoustic bass. ...
