このCDは、ジョン・ウィリアムズが指揮し、スカイウォーカー・シンフォニー・オーケストラの演奏で収録されたアルバムである。 スターウォーズの映画音楽を集めたもので、今風に言えばエピソード4〜6の音楽を集めたもの。 それぞれの代表的な曲を集めたものだ。 これらは既に録音当時からサントラやフィリップスから作曲家自身の録音があり、それらに続くものとなっている。 オケは名称から判る様に、今回の録音のために集めたメンバーからなる物だが、演奏はなかなか立派で重厚なサウンドを聴かせている。 個々の曲に関しては他にもいい演奏が多いが、全体として見ればなかなか良いアルバムだろう。 録音は1990年で、音質は良好。
