Product Description

After the happy success of 'Music for Squares,' it's nice to see 'Buffalo Gals' come out. According to story, Joe and Erik would get together every couple weeks and record some old songs they liked. Erik played on his Baldwin Acrosonic spinet piano (or the big A.B. Chase upright), and Joe played his 1890 Martin parlor guitar. The results are often quite magical. A recommended example is 'Jumping Judy,' a haunting minor key song attributed to Lead Belly (Huddie Ledbetter) by Alan Lomax. Jumping Judy has never been recorded in this fashion, and is one of the most deeply emotional songs Lead Belly ever wrote/performed. Spoonful, the Willie Dixon gem, features prepared piano. If Good Bye Old Paint and Trail to Mexico don't make you want to hitch up and ride or just sip something by the campfire, I don't know what will. The title track, Buffalo Gals, and Daisy Belle both have some of the finest easy weaving done by a guitar and piano ever heard. These two instruments don't always get along, but with these two tall drinks, it seems like the easiest thing done. Their ability to renew old songs like they were made up yesterday is something to be heard. The album was recorded at WakoWorld Music, in San Francisco, California. It was also mastered there.
