Even though Jim is legally blind with Retinitis Pigmentosa, he continues to pursue his music, even though other work and raising a family put this project on hold for many years. The outcome is a much more refined musical work than might have been accomplished in the inexperience of his younger days. The music is a culmination of styles, but especially influenced by Billy Joel, Elton John, and Jackson Browne. Other important musical role models include Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong, Scott Joplin, and even Lynyrd Skynyrd. The complexity of the chord structures in most of the songs gives this album a unique place in the world of three-chord music. That being said, Jim also shows how powerful a blues progression can be as the basis for 'Wrecking Ball'. The lyrics of these songs are carefully crafted to tell stories or evoke emotions in a way only an experienced wordsmith can do. Whether admonishing a friend in 'Danger Zone', humorously creating a 'happy sad song' in a New Orleans style with 'Big Drops', or sharing the gut-wrenching horrors of our ignorance of human tragedy around us in 'This Is My Katrina', there is no doubt about the message. Of course, familiar accounts of love and loss are also included. Jim's arrangements which are brought to life by excellent musicians are also carefully written in order to be consistent with the mood and style of the compositions. While the basic ideas and arrangements are his, he allowed each musician to add a piece of their own individuality and style to the project.
