ジュエル。比較的コンスタントにアルバムを出していたようだけど、僕にとっては、彼女がデビューして数年”Foolish Games”や”Hands”を大ヒットさせた90年代半ばから後半以来の再会。店で見かけて、一気に恋しくなった。何の新しさもないカントリー系王道アメリカン・ポップだけど、とてもいい。嫌みのない歌、タイトな演奏。ギターを弾きながら歌い出すと歌詞もメロディーも自然に生まれてきたという感じ。2CDのデラックスエディションで、”Sweet and Mild”と題されたボーナスディスクには正にそれを証明するかのように、生ギター1本のアクースティックバージョンが丸ごと全曲分収録されている。アラスカで育ち、サンディエゴで車上生活をし、ハタチそこそこで大成功した後、更に10数年を生きた彼女の人生の多くの場面や想いがこのアルバムの一曲一曲に、染み込んでいるのがわかる。穏やかに心が揺らされる。お勧めします。
