Luckey Guy

Digitally remastered edition of this rare 1978 album. Jem Targal first made his mark as vocalist/bassist/main songwriter for Detroit power-trio legends Third Power. After the band split in 1972, a despondent Jem took up home recording, laying down hours of tape on a Teac 4-track machine. Jem selected the best cuts from these solo sessions and in 1978 released Luckey Guy - pasting the gatefold covers and handling all sales himself in true DIY fashion. It's a peripatetic album with spaced-out guitar, tortured, dissonant piano, culminating in a sparse, apocalyptic tale, with bits of childlike whimsy and Jem's eerie harmonies woven throughout. Were we to shamelessly namedrop, we might mention Syd Barrett, Skip Spence, Brian Wilson and Gary Wilson as starting points.
