ヤナーチェク研究の第一人者であり、オペラや管弦楽曲で優れた録音を行っているマッケラスの代表的な録音である。特に、シンフォニエッタはウィーンフィルの各楽器の美質を存分に活かした名演であり、必聴のディスクである。30年以上前の録音とは思えない優れた録音であり、後列に並んだコントラバスや躍動するウィンナ・パウケンが目に浮かぶ。
