'The Hope Tonic's debut record, born of a loose couple days of sessions at The Terrarium in Northeast Minneapolis, presents itself to the world June 5th at the intimate Aster Cafe in Minneapolis, band leader Todd Clouser's hometown. 'Mighty Bird' is a collection of original songs, rawly sung, densely lyrical, with an honest approach to performance reminiscent of artists from the blues laden folk rock of Chris Whitley to more storied songsmiths, with tasteful dips into popular territory, a departure from Clouser's recent endeavor, the modern rock jazz quintet A Love Electric. Toy pianos, big pianos, a National Resonator guitar, melodica, and Clouser's signature guitar work combine to make 'Mighty Bird' a record steeped in emotion, and true to the remarkable musicianship of the trio, featuring Jt Bates on drums and Chris Bates on the upright bass.'
