Hoobastank's second full-length release finds the oddly named band honing their hard-rock hooks. On THE REASON, the group recalls a poppier Tool without the dark, brooding qualities or experimental edge. Douglas Robb's introspective, angst-ridden lyrics complement his plaintive vocals, and the band ably backs him up with tight guitar riffs and a solid rhythmic foundation. Clearly Robb has a lot to get off his chest with this set of songs--he wonders "What Happened to Us?" and decides that "I'm the only one that understands me." And on "Let It Out," Hoobastank rocks through an anthemic call for release. Although the instrumentation and arrangements are generally straightforward, some electronic and acoustic flourishes open up Hoobastank's sonic landscapes to wider vistas.

ザ・リーズンは最初のピアノの単音のような音から、ときめきがあふれ出すような素晴らしい名曲です。こんな音楽経験ができた事は幸せに値すると思います。他の楽曲も身体の真髄に響くような体験だったと振り返ってあらためて思い出します。

とにかく＃3のイントロのメロディーラインの美しさに一発でKOです！！ ＃5は日本の某ビールメーカーがCMで使用して耳にした事がある人も多いのでは？（本作のキラーチューンを使うなんざ担当者の人はセンスいいね！） とにかく本作は（静）と（働）の強弱の付け方が絶妙で＃1.＃2.＃9.の様なハードなナンバーや全米でヒットした＃8.以外にも＃6など多種多様なナンバーの宝庫である！！彼らに興味がある人は是非、本作をお勧めしたい！！
