The three orchestral pieces on this CD span a period of 50 years, beginning with the Piano Concerto No. 1 composed in 1950 by the then 24-year-old Henze and ending with Scorribanda sinfonica (literally, symphonic bandit's raid) commissioned by the NDR Symphony Orchestra for Henze's 75th birthday in 2001, in which the composer, with the perspective of several decades' distance, revisits his ballet music Maratona created in 1956. Henze: Elements from the older piece reappear on and off like shadows under the surface of the new one, more or less like vague memories, images of young people suffering from pain and despair in their struggle for survival in a barbarous, pitiless modern world.

ヘンツェの作品には現代作曲家にありがちな独り善がりや選民的スノビズムが無く、強い意志と柔軟な感性が両立している。作曲者自身、「グレの歌より春の祭典の方が好き」と言っているため、かばくんの意見は的確です。初心者でも純粋に聴いていて楽しくなる現代曲のひとつ。

「侵略交響曲」ではなく「交響的略奪」と訳すべき。過去の作品の改作だからです。ハルサイ並のテンション、年老いてこのヴァイタリティには敬服します。これと比べたらカップリングの古い作品は何ともお行儀がよろしい。
