Guitar Sonatas: ガルブレイズ

Guitar arrangements of pieces written for piano have transformed our understanding of this traditional instrument. Following in the footsteps of Segovia, Paul Galbraith takes an innovative approach to the guitar, and as with Segovia, he changes the way we listen.
In his new arrangement of Haydn's keyboard sonatas, Galbraith makes use of the extended range his eight-string guitar affords. The high notes are sweeter and the lows deeper than on the usual six-string instrument, enabling the player to sound more like a string quartet than a solo performer. The pieces translate beautifully for guitar, Haydn's condensed writing style meshing perfectly with the instrument's tone.
Technically, Galbraith is remarkable. His command of the guitar, which has won him several awards as well as much media attention, shines through on this recording.
