FERDE GROFE (1892-1972)

Ferde Grofe is best known as the arranger for the Paul Whiteman band and it was in this capacity that he became the man to orchestrate Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. He was, however, a composer of no mean accomplishment, with the Grand Canyon Suite being his best-known composition. On this album we have two more of Grofe's many orchestral suites depicting famous American geographical features. ( EMI )

TV番組『アメリカ横断ウルトラクイズ』で、勝ち抜け決定の時に流れた音源は、まさにこのCDに収録されているものです。 録音が古いのが欠点ですが、コスト・パフォーマンスに優れているので、グローフェの曲を知りたい方は、これから買うのがお勧めです。

録音年代を見てビックリ！ スラトキン指揮（レナート・スラトキンのお父さんだそう）が’56、グローフェの自作指揮が’54。見事な録音です。とても５０数年前のものとは思えないほどの素晴らしい音質です。演奏もお国ものということで、いかにもアメリカらしい煌びやかなものです。
