Product Description

2014 remastered reissue of his 1974 fifth studio album with two bonus tracks. Guest musicians include Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Robben Ford, Alvin Lee, Klaus Voorman, Tom Scott & the L.A. Express, Billy Preston, Willie Weeks, Andy Newmark, Jim Keltner, Gary Wright, Ronnie Wood & many more. Two hit singles were released from this album Dark Horse & his New Year's song Ding Dong, Ding Dong. The album was produced by George & was recorded at A&M Studios in L.A. & his home studio Friar Park Studio Henley- On- Thames. It was hurriedly recorded during rehearsals for his upcoming USA tour & George developed a case of laryngitis which obviously contributed to his strained vocal sound on the album.

ジャケットから中身を想像しにくいですが、いいアルバムです。 サイケっぽいかと思ったら、そこまで飛んではいません。 ギターも歌もいい。 一曲目からバランスがいいです。 この人物が、バンドではツートップではなかったというところに、あらためてビートルズのすごさを感じます。 ホーン、ピアノ、おそらくジューズハープも入り、音色が豊かです。 個人的には、4、10がよかったです。

最近CDで買い直し、30年ぶりに聴いた。 アナログ時代に初めて聴いたとき、声が違うと思ったが、ツアーでのどをつぶしてしまっていたらしい。ディン・ドンは日本でもヒットしてよくラジオでオンエアされていたのを思い出す。単純な歌ながら耳によくなじむ曲です。 クラプトン参加などの話題はあるが、全体的に地味で、パッとしないのだが、ファー・イースト・マンは名曲。LPでいうB面がよい。 当時若かったウィリー・ウィークスやアンディ・ニューマークの演奏が聴けるのもうれしい。ロベン・フォードも参加している。フォリナーのミック・ジョーンズの名も。 地味だけど、30年過ぎても耳から離れなかったくらい耳にこびりつく作品で味わいがあります。

これかなり好きです。ジョージの枯れた声もここでは意外にいい結果を生んでると思う。ファンキーなイメージさえある。でもジョージのソロ聴いたことない人はこれは後回しにしましょうね。
