5つの地区に分かれた巨大都市は、フリーウェイ（高速道路）で自由な行き来が可能。郊外の丘陵地帯を抜けるワインディングロードから、グリッド状に配置された都心部の道路まで、あらゆる公道がサーキットになります。公道レース界、すなわちアンダーグラウンドでは、いつどこでレースが開催されるか分かりません。プレイヤーが行動することによってライバルたちと出会い、バトルが生まれ、勝利することで最新パーツ情報を入手できる。アンダーグラウンドで名を挙げられるのは、このタフな道のりを進めるレーサーだけなのです。
特徴あふれる5つのレース地区は、風景だけでなく、走行条件やコースの性質も違います。レースは一晩中行われており、路面状態の変化、リアルタイムで変わっていく天候の影響、コース上の障害物など、気を抜くことは許されない！
プレイステーション2では、別売りのプレイステーションBB Unitを使用してオンライン対戦が可能。トップランクのレーサーたちとオンラインで競い、名を上げることができます。
