Out Of A Dream is Folly's Pool fourth release and highlights the bands return to an acoustic guitar based rock. Featuring strong vocals by Doug Carlson, Jeff Carlson and introducing Jeff Bryon to singing lead, the songs tackle several styles from Rock to Country to Reggae . Not only are the lead vocals more diverse, but the harmonies are intertwined throughout with several Beatle like moments. With this release Jon Bennet and Tony Craig join the band providing a solid base and ripping guitars respectively. Jon's dexterity in playing both Bass and Rhythm Guitar provided the foundation working with Jeff Bryon in establishing the feel of this release. Tony Craig's playing speaks for itself. Regardless of the style needed from Concert Hall screaming leads to subtle Mark Knopfler staccato. Icing the cake is his slide work which sings with emotion highlighting the story within the song. Doug Carlson has once again created songs that tell a story. From the opening track of Josephine expressing the frustration of watching a loved one go down a path of tragedy that one is helpless to intervene to Country Man which encapsulates the experience of The Great Generation that has seen us go from horse and buggy to landing on the moon. Warm Valley Nights takes the listener on a journey to their youth in summer when no longer a child, yet not an adult, free and full of Energy, unaware of risks and limitations. Like Out Of A Dream swirls with evocative melodies that escape the physics of the real world. Duster is a solid rocker from the days of playing the Central Valley in California and dream of freedom sailing the skies. Doug address the futility with our political process and the role the Talking Heads take in throwing gasoline on the fires of difference. Jeff Carlson contributes a wonderful song to this release, Beyond Your Love. It speaks of tragic loss and the need to go on and rediscover life. Tony adds a hypnotic solo at the end that makes this a clear favorite.
